Setting Up the Human Resource Department

It's common for the company office manager, accountant or a junior HR administrator to be responsible for all of the human resources issues in small to mid-sized companies.  However, as the company grows the HR function greatly increases in importance.

The Human Resource function is the part of the company that takes Senior Management's business plan and answers the people questions.  "Who are the people who are going to execute the plan?"  "Do they have the skills - can they do it?'  "If they can't do it, what will it take to make it happen - training, hiring, or an organization realignment?"  "Are the company communications focused on the plan or are there mixed messages?"  "Is the workforce motivated to meet the business plan challenges - does the company have the proper rewards and recognition programs?"

Understanding the business, the business plan, and executing HR strategies and tactics that make the business successful is the function of Human Resources.

Would you ask your accountant to set-up and run the sales function or your top salesperson to set up operations procedures or operations to keep the financial records?  Probably not.  Then why ask anyone other than a top HR professional to help set up your Human Resource function.

Creating an HR function that's a strategic partner and not just a cost center is the province of an experienced professional.  We'll get you off on the right foot.  Develop the systems, metrics, best practices and find a staff that make sense for your business.  More important, we'll provide coaching, counseling and/or direction to your staff and teach them the tools they need to manage HR issues with confidence.
