It occurs when someone sees things differently than anyone has before and acts upon their observation.
In the vernacular it's called "thinking out of the box." Those that do, enjoy increased sales and normally a higher yield on those sales until the market matures. One only has to look to the early days of FEDEX, Microsoft, Intel, and EBay or the more recent vertical integration of Hilti and others, to realize that innovation is worth the investment.
Everyone understands the benefit of innovation, the problem is that, how to think innovatively isn't part of any schools curriculum. There are a number of techniques that help to see things differently, however. For some of our clients we offer training in how to "think outside the box", for others we facilitate their tactical planning sessions to innovate a function or business unit.
We offer a full day, four hour, or tailored course at your location that instructs "How to think out of the Box." We will open eyes to see in a different way - question basic assumptions - drill down and define the opportunity.
The training sessions are designed to provide a tool box of different techniques. Inventive problem solving where the relationship between brain, insight, and innovation tools are explained (parallel, lateral, and adversarial thinking techniques) and innovation when the ideal solution is outside the field of expertise - TRIZ (Theory of Inventive Problem Solving), ARIZ, AFD for example.
We believe that training should be as little lecture as possible, mostly experiential because that's the way adults learn, and fun for both the trainer and those that participate. More important however, training must add value to our client's organization.
