Corporate Ethics

Corporate conduct, specifically the company CEO and Board of Directors, have come under increased scrutiny from shareholders and other stakeholders since Enron and other debacles.

The pressure to create exemplary codes of conduct has been growing.  Many believe that In today's litigious business environment, a Corporate Code of Ethics is almost a business necessity.

These codes seek to promote good conduct by setting a common standard for acceptable behavior.  A Corporate Code of Ethics will define a company’s core set of values and guiding principles.  Beyond establishing a framework for ethical behavior, they shape decision making and deter employees from acting unethically.  Simply put, codes of ethical conduct are usually short descriptions of the manner in which employees are expected to behave.

They build customer and other stakeholder confidence and can serve as a public relations tool.  A Code of Ethical Conduct is good for business.

We've helped others consider the issues and develop their corporate code.  Normally they include statements concerning; legitimate commercial practices with customers and suppliers; political contributions; compliance with anti-trust; the Sherman Act; exchange of information with competitors; and other issues.  Once the code is developed, training helps employees to clarify their own ethics dilemmas and practice self-discipline.

What's ethical today, may not be tomorrow - ethics change with the times and the culture of the country.  Let us help to facilitate your discussions, clarify your organization's values, and communicate your policy.
