CEO "The New Normal"
As standards of CEO performance increase, chief executive turnover is accelerating in the U.S. and globally, turning the early departure of a company's leader into the "new normal," according to a survey of the 2,500 largest publicly traded corporations.
Chief Executive Turnover soared 53 percent in recent years. CEO churn is at an all-time high. Increasingly new CEO's enter a company, fail to deliver and are sent packing. Sometimes, if they do produce results, other companies snatch them up. Either way, the "new normal" - CEO turnover.
For new CEO's the die is cast in the first six months or so, and Human Resource leadership in that period is critical.
When you look at leaders who haven't made it versus. those that succeed, the HR function has been focused on results and played a key role in the transition year. New CEO's who lack competent HR support are more likely to be left out in the cold, than succeed. Even competent HR people are usually not practiced in the soft skills required for a successful transition at the top.
